Ankle–Calf–Thigh Ratio
Measure consistently. Compare your lower-limb proportions.
Lower-limb ratios
Side-to-side differences
| Site | Left | Right | Absolute difference | Difference / mean |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ankle | — | — | — | — |
| Calf | — | — | — | — |
| Thigh | — | — | — | — |
Difference (%) = |Left − Right| ÷ [(Left + Right) / 2] × 100. Descriptive only; no diagnostic cutoff is assigned.
Where to place the tape
Record your landmarks and repeat with the same posture. The illustration is a guide, not a clinical assessment.
Circumference comparison
Left legRight leg
Bar lengths compare circumference, not health status.
Calculation & assumptions
Ankle / Thigh = 22 ÷ 52 = 0.423
Calf / Thigh = 36 ÷ 52 = 0.692
Ankle / Calf = 22 ÷ 36 = 0.611
Use one unit system and the same anatomical sites. Ratios are unitless; calculations retain full precision before rounding.
Frequently asked questions
What do these ratios tell me?
They describe the relative circumferences of three sites on the measured leg. They do not directly measure muscle mass, body fat, circulation or fluid volume.
Is there one universal healthy ratio?
No universal clinical healthy range is assigned here. Build, training, age, measurement site and technique can affect these proportions. A result alone cannot establish health or disease.
How do I compare left and right legs?
Select Compare both legs and enter each leg’s three circumferences. Match the landmarks, posture and tape tension on both sides. The table reports the absolute difference and a percentage relative to the mean of both measurements; neither is a diagnostic label.
Can this diagnose lymphoedema?
No. Assessment involves symptoms, history, examination and, where appropriate, serial circumference or limb-volume measurements and other tests. Seek clinical assessment for new or unexplained swelling, even if the ratios appear similar.
