These are booking guides, not instructions to perform tests at home. Mating-based dates may differ from true gestational age.
Veterinary testing improves dating. A temperature drop may precede labor, but it cannot be assigned a guaranteed date or used alone to assess readiness.
Date Calculation & Worked Example
Sep 14, 2026 + 63 days = Nov 16, 2026
Elapsed = Oct 14 − Sep 14 = 30 days
Remaining = 63 − 30 = 33 days
Calendar progress = 30 ÷ 63 × 100 = 47.6%
Mating-date reference: start + 58 to 72 days
Nov 11 – Nov 25, 2026
Frequently Asked Questions
Is 63 days measured from mating or ovulation?
The commonly used 63-day mean is ovulation-based; mating dates are less precise.
Does the timeline confirm fetal development?
No. It is an approximate calendar guide, not an ultrasound result.
When should I arrange an ultrasound?
Discuss the approximate 25–35-day window with your veterinarian.
Can temperature predict the exact birth date?
No. Changes may precede labor, but individual assessment is needed.
More pregnancy questions
Does this calculator confirm pregnancy?
No. Dates and signs alone do not establish pregnancy. Arrange appropriate veterinary testing.
How do the date presets differ?
Mating uses a 63-day planning assumption with a broader published 58–72-day reference range. Vet-confirmed ovulation starts with 63 days and a 62–64-day contextual range. LH surge starts with 65 days and a 64–66-day contextual range. Custom uses the vet-entered reference and duration without an invented generic range.
Can I change the duration?
Yes, from 58 to 72 whole days. This changes the planning date, remaining time and progress. The published range remains a separate reference for the selected basis. If your chosen duration differs from it, review the dating plan with your vet.
How are veterinary appointment windows calculated?
They are approximate booking guides. Ultrasound uses reference day 25–35 and late litter-count radiography day 56–60. In LH mode the tool uses an illustrative LH+2-day ovulation offset. Mating and custom reference dates may not reflect actual gestational age, so your veterinarian must adjust scheduling.
Why is the litter-count X-ray later than day 45?
Skeletons may be detectable earlier, but late radiography after about day 55 is more useful for counting puppies. Your veterinarian determines the appropriate time and examination.
What if the planning date has passed?
The tool shows days past the estimate and keeps the actual elapsed count. It does not mark birth as completed, restart a pregnancy or diagnose a problem from the date alone. Contact your veterinary team for assessment.
Are the ultrasound and radiograph real patient images?
No. They are generated educational illustrations. They do not show your dog, a diagnostic result, a measured fetal age or an actual puppy count.
Does the last-week reminder predict a temperature drop?
No. It is a planning reminder for a veterinarian-led monitoring plan. Temperature changes vary and cannot be assigned a fixed future day or used alone to confirm readiness for delivery.
