Your on-base percentage
OBP opportunities are the formula denominator, not necessarily total PA.

What contributes to your OBP
Hits 24.9% · Walks 9.8% · HBP 0.9% · Not credited 64.5%

What if you drew more walks?
Add walks as new batting opportunities.
(200 + 10) ÷ (563 + 10) = .366
To reach .400: 42 additional walks across 42 new opportunities.
Calculation & assumptions
(140 + 55 + 5) ÷ (500 + 55 + 5 + 3) = .355
- Use official counts for the same player, team and time period.
- Sacrifice bunts and interference are not included in this denominator.
- With no opportunities, OBP is undefined. With no at-bats, batting average is undefined.
- Team OBP uses the combined counts, not the mean of player OBPs.
The comparison bands are illustrative, not official awards, player evaluations or a live MLB average. Rates are calculated without intermediate rounding.
Frequently asked questions
Why is OBP different from batting average?
Batting average uses hits divided by official at-bats. OBP also credits walks and hit-by-pitches and uses a different denominator. It is not a measure of power or a complete evaluation of a player.
Do sacrifice flies count?
Sacrifice flies are included in the OBP denominator. They are not official at-bats. Sacrifice bunts are excluded from the OBP formula. Use official scoring counts.
Is the denominator always total PA?
No. These inputs give AB + BB + HBP + SF. Full plate appearances can also include sacrifice bunts and interference, so this dashboard labels the denominator OBP opportunities instead of assuming it is total PA.
How do team totals work?
The studio adds each player’s hits, at-bats, walks, hit-by-pitches and sacrifice flies, then calculates one ratio. Do not average player OBPs. Avoid duplicate records and use the same time period. The main fields count as the first player.
What does the extra-walk scenario change?
Each additional walk adds one to BB and one to the OBP denominator, while AB, H, HBP and SF stay fixed. In comparison mode the scenario applies to player A. In team mode Apply scenario assigns those walks to the first player record. It is a hypothetical scenario, not a prediction.
Does OBP count every time a player reaches base?
No. OBP credits the specific events in its numerator. Reaching on an error or a fielder’s choice does not count as a credited OBP success. The Not credited segment therefore should not be read as a count of outs.
