Orthocenter — Horizontal-Base Triangle — limited numerical model with explicit assumptions.

Formula

Hx=Cx; Hy=Ay+(Bx−Cx)(Cx−Ax)/(Cy−Ay)
  • Calculates the intersection of triangle altitudes only for triangles with a horizontal side AB (Ay=By). C must not share the same y as A/B and A,B must be distinct. This is not a general six-coordinate triangle solver. Formula: Hx=Cx; Hy=Ay+(Bx−Cx)(Cx−Ax)/(Cy−Ay)
  • The main inputs are Vertex A x, Vertex A y, Vertex B x, Vertex C x, Vertex C y. Enter them in the units and format shown in the calculator.
  • Keep comparable quantities in compatible units whenever the formula combines or compares them.
  • Changing any input above recalculates the result with the same calculation engine used by this page.

Example: Orthocenter

Inputs
  • Vertex A x: 0
  • Vertex A y: 0
  • Vertex B x: 4 B has same y as A
  • Vertex C x: 1
  • Vertex C y: 3

For the default example inputs, primary result = 1.

Frequently asked questions

What does the Orthocenter calculate?

Orthocenter — Horizontal-Base Triangle — limited numerical model with explicit assumptions.

Which values should I enter?

Enter Vertex A x, Vertex A y, Vertex B x, Vertex C x, Vertex C y using the units and format shown beside each field.

What formula does this calculator use?

The calculator uses the following relationship: Hx=Cx; Hy=Ay+(Bx−Cx)(Cx−Ax)/(Cy−Ay).

Why might my result differ from another source?

Results can differ when another source uses different units, rounding rules, conventions or assumptions. Compare the inputs and definitions before comparing results.

Does the result update automatically?

Yes. Changing an input updates the result using the same calculation engine shown on this page.
