Formula & Assumptions
- Daily mass = body weight × feeding percentage ÷ 100
- Component mass = daily mass × selected model share
- Budget = daily mass × period days × unit price
Conversion: 1 lb = 0.45359237 kg; 1 oz = 28.349523125 g. PMR and BARF splits are illustrative defaults, not nutrient requirement assessments.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is 80/10/10 a complete diet?
No. A weight ratio alone does not establish adequate energy, vitamins, minerals or other essential nutrients. This tool estimates ingredient mass, not nutritional completeness. WSAVA highlights raw-diet pathogen, bone-injury and imbalance risks.
Why are puppy rates not automatic?
Growth needs vary with age, breed size, energy density and body condition. For Puppy and Weight Management, enter the rate specified for your dog by your veterinarian or veterinary nutritionist; this calculator does not prescribe it.
What changes when I select BARF?
This example BARF model changes muscle meat from 80% to 70% and adds 10% vegetables. Bone stays at 10%, liver at 5%, and other secreting organs at 5%. Ingredient quantities, bowl illustration and composition bar update immediately. Real recipes can use other ratios.
What does this calculator calculate?
Daily and per-meal portions by body-weight percentage, example ingredient splits, weekly and selected-period quantities, and optional food-only costs.
What should I enter?
Enter body weight, a feeding-percentage assumption and meals per day. The adult and active preset rates are examples only. Price, price unit, currency and day count control budget estimates.
Which formula is used?
Daily portion equals body weight multiplied by percentage divided by 100. Ingredient masses use the selected example split; costs multiply unrounded food mass by unit price and days.
Why might my result differ from another calculator?
Different percentage assumptions, ingredient ratios, units, day counts and rounding can change the estimate. Percentage of weight does not account for the food’s energy density or your dog’s individual nutritional needs.
Do values update automatically?
Yes. Inputs and selections update portions and budget immediately. Weight and price-unit switches convert the entered value to preserve the estimate. Currency selection changes the monetary label only.
