Task Time Estimator — free online calculator.
Formula
- Estimate effort and elapsed duration for equally sized tasks executed in parallel batches. Parallel slots and task count must be positive. Assumes each task takes the same time, all parallel slots are available, and no overhead.
- The main inputs are Base Estimate per Task, Complexity Factor (1.0 = simple, 1.5 = complex), Number of Tasks, Tasks Run in Parallel. Enter them in the units and format shown in the calculator.
- Use the units, labels and assumptions shown beside each input so the formula is applied consistently.
- Changing any input above recalculates the result with the same calculation engine used by this page.
Example: Task Time
- Base Estimate per Task: 4 hours
- Complexity Factor (1.0 = simple, 1.5 = complex): 1.3
- Number of Tasks: 5
- Tasks Run in Parallel: 2
4 hours × 1.3 complexity = 5.2 hours per task; 5 tasks require 26 task-hours. With 2 parallel slots, 3 batches take approximately 15.6 elapsed hours.

Frequently asked questions
What does the Task Time calculate?
Task Time Estimator — free online calculator.
Which values should I enter?
Enter Base Estimate per Task, Complexity Factor (1.0 = simple, 1.5 = complex), Number of Tasks, Tasks Run in Parallel using the units and format shown beside each field.
What formula does this calculator use?
The calculator uses the following relationship: Per-task hours = base estimate × complexity; total effort = per-task hours × tasks; batches = ceil(tasks / parallel slots); elapsed hours = batches × per-task hours..
Why might my result differ from another source?
Results can differ when another source uses different units, rounding rules, conventions or assumptions. Compare the inputs and definitions before comparing results.
Does the result update automatically?
Yes. Changing an input updates the result using the same calculation engine shown on this page.
