Sports Injury Recovery Time Estimator

Understand the recovery window. Explore the stages. Plan your next conversation.

Your Injury & Activity Profile

Use a clinician’s diagnosis. Do not self-grade. The range is not grade-specific.

Age and sport demands add context; no fixed age or activity multiplier is assumed.

Fractures, suspected ruptures or uncertain diagnoses need an individual assessment.

Protection & Early Care

Understand the diagnosis and follow the protection plan agreed with your clinician.

  • Clarify weight-bearing or activity restrictions
  • Review pain, swelling and changes in symptoms
  • Agree when and how progress will be reassessed

Explore the stages for discussion; selecting a stage does not confirm you have reached it.

Discuss with your physiotherapist.

How This Estimate Works

Published reference information is matched to the selected injury. It describes general recovery context, not your personal prognosis.

Body site, diagnosis, treatment and complications can change the course. Symptom improvement is different from tissue healing and readiness for sport.

No unsupported age multipliers or automatic clearance dates are applied. The four-stage layout organizes discussion topics; it is not a validated individualized rehabilitation protocol.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the estimate tell me when I can play again?

No. The displayed information is a general published reference, not a personalized prediction or medical clearance. Symptom improvement does not prove recovery of strength, function or sport readiness. Discuss your return with a physiotherapist or sports physician.

Why is recovery shown as a range?

Injuries vary by site, extent, treatment and complications. The NHS UHDB calf-strain page gives a general 6–12 week symptom-settling reference; it is not a grade-specific forecast. This tool does not multiply base days by age, activity or severity.

Can I use this for a fracture or tendon rupture?

No generic countdown is provided for fractures, suspected ruptures, severe injuries, people under 20 or an unconfirmed diagnosis. These selections direct you to individual clinical assessment. A suspected tendon rupture needs urgent assessment.

How do the rehabilitation stages work?

Select a phase card, stage marker or tab to explore topics for discussion. Protection, mobility, strengthening and return to sport can overlap. Selecting a phase does not mean you have reached it, and the tool does not allocate equal weeks, prescribe exercises or test your readiness.
