Calculation & Assumptions
Score = total × coefficient
Coefficient = 500 / P(body weight)
- Classic Wilks uses sex-specific coefficients and kilograms.
- Individual lifts are added automatically for three-lift totals.
- IPF GL uses equipment and event-specific coefficients.
- Reference bands apply only to original Wilks three-lift scores.
Formula versions and precision
Original Wilks: 500 / a fifth-degree polynomial. Wilks 2020: 600 / its updated fifth-degree polynomial. DOTS: 500 / a fourth-degree polynomial. IPF GL: 100 / (A − B × exp(−C × body weight)); its coefficient is rounded to six decimals before multiplying, then the points are rounded to six decimals. Display: two decimals, or three for GL. Targets are mathematical loads, without plate rounding. GL constants are the published 2020 table linked by the IPF formula page; confirm the rules for your meet.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which score should I use?
Use the scoring system specified by your federation or event. Original Wilks, Wilks 2020, DOTS and IPF GL are distinct scales. This tool compares formulas; it does not determine competition eligibility or rankings.
Do pounds change my score?
No. Entered pounds are converted to kilograms before applying any formula. Switching units preserves physical weights to eight decimal places. Only the displayed load unit changes.
Are these official strength rankings?
No. Beginner, Intermediate and other displayed bands are a broad illustrative guide for original Wilks three-lift scores, not official federation, age, equipment or percentile rankings. They are not applied to GL bench-only scores.
