Prepare for kittening

Quiet nesting area and clean bedding
Prepare a warm, calm space with washable bedding. Allow her to settle; avoid unnecessary disturbance.

Emergency vet contact and carrier
Save the clinic’s number and transport plan before labour. Keep an appropriate carrier accessible.

Clean towels and a gram scale
Have clean towels available. Record kitten weights as advised by your veterinarian.
Birth & newborn observation notes
Optional records, not a labour assessment. Notes stay on this page; download a copy to keep them.
When to contact a veterinarian
- Forceful straining for 30 minutes without a kitten.
- A stuck kitten, heavy bleeding or marked weakness.
- Any distress or concern, even before the estimated date.
Do not pull a kitten or give medicines without veterinary instructions. These examples are not a complete list of complications or a safe waiting period.
Keep a backup contact. Availability and transport arrangements must be confirmed with your local clinic.
Understand the estimate
Due date = mating date + assumed days
Calendar days; mating is day 0. Progress does not measure fetal development.Pregnancy, labour & newborn care
During pregnancy
Arrange veterinary confirmation and discuss a complete diet, medication safety and individual monitoring. Do not give medicines to induce labour without specific veterinary instructions.
During labour
Observe discreetly and note timings. Seek advice for poor progress or distress; do not use a predicted date to decide how long it is safe to wait.
After birth
Watch the mother’s condition and whether kittens are warm and nursing. Seek prompt advice for weakness, feeding problems or a mother that appears unwell. Agree postnatal checks with your vet.
Frequently asked questions
How accurate are these dates?
This is calendar arithmetic from an observed mating date and an assumed duration. Mating may not equal conception. A planning window is illustrative, not a clinical normal range or a prediction that delivery will occur within it.
Should I use the mating date or heat onset date?
Use an observed mating date. Heat onset does not confirm ovulation, conception or pregnancy. If dates are uncertain, ask your veterinarian; the tool cannot date a pregnancy from signs.
What care is needed during pregnancy?
Discuss a suitable complete diet, handling and a quiet nesting space with your veterinarian. The care calendar is a planning guide, not a prescribed treatment schedule.
When should I contact my veterinarian?
Contact your veterinarian if pregnancy is suspected, or if there is illness, poor appetite, distress, abnormal discharge or concern about labour. Do not rely on the estimated date to decide whether urgent care is needed.

What does the Cat Pregnancy calculator calculate?
It adds assumed gestation days to mating date, computes elapsed and remaining calendar days, and shows dated planning milestones. It does not confirm pregnancy, litter size or fetal viability.
Which values should I enter?
Enter the observed mating date, an assessment date and assumed gestation duration between 60 and 67 days. That input range is a calculator setting, not a diagnostic boundary.
What formula does this calculator use?
Due date = mating date + assumed duration. Elapsed days = assessment date − mating date. Remaining days = duration − elapsed. The progress bar is limited to 0–100%; signed day differences remain visible.
Why might my result differ from another source?
Sources may count the mating day differently or use a different assumed duration. Individual timing varies. This tool uses day 0 for mating and calendar dates without time-zone or daylight-saving shifts.
Does the result update automatically?
Yes. Inputs and the duration slider update the calendar immediately. Download and copy always use the current valid dates. Invalid inputs clear outputs and disable export.
What if the mating date is in the future or the due date has passed?
Future mating dates are treated as planned matings, with zero elapsed progress. If the assumed due date has passed, the tool shows days past the estimate; it does not diagnose overdue pregnancy or establish a safe waiting period.
