Metacam Dosage Cat Calculator
Convert a veterinarian’s prescription. Check the product label.
Prescription & Product Inputs
Prescription Conversion
4 kg × entered 0.05 mg/kg ÷ 0.5 mg/mL
Volume illustration — use the prescribed oral dosing device
This conversion does not determine suitability, frequency or treatment duration. No dose is rounded up.
Country & product label guidance
FDA: single-injection approval; oral feline use is not approved. Repeated use carries a boxed warning. Extra-label treatment requires individual veterinary direction.
Feline oral formulations have indication-specific instructions. Confirm the exact current local product. A country selection does not validate a prescription.
Formula & Worked Example
Dose (mg) = weight (kg) × prescribed rate (mg/kg). Volume (mL) = dose ÷ concentration.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is this calculator for?
It converts a veterinarian-prescribed weight-based rate and exact product concentration to mg and mL. It does not choose a dose or decide whether meloxicam is suitable.
Are the default values a recommended dose?
No. The initial 4 kg, 0.05 mg/kg and 0.5 mg/mL entries are an explicitly labeled arithmetic example. Editing any prescription input requires your own written-prescription confirmation before results are shown.
Why do country labels differ?
Authorizations and instructions depend on country, product, route and indication. U.S. feline approval is a one-time injection; oral use is not FDA-approved and repeated use carries a boxed warning. Confirm the exact current local label with your veterinarian.
Where can I find the concentration?
Use the meloxicam concentration on your exact product label, in mg/mL. Do not assume a dog formulation, a cat formulation and an injectable product are interchangeable.
More questions
Does a green result mean the dose is safe?
No. Mint is the site’s arithmetic-result style, not medical clearance. Weight and concentration alone cannot determine safety or suitability.
Does this tool provide a loading or maintenance protocol?
No. It provides no loading dose, maintenance preset, dosing frequency, treatment duration or automatic daily total. Those instructions must come from the prescribing veterinarian.
Is there a kidney-safe preset?
No. Kidney disease, hydration, comorbidities, other drugs and monitoring require individual assessment. No dose is universally certified safe for a cat with kidney disease.
Can I measure the volume from the syringe picture?
No. It is a schematic mL axis, not a calibrated medical device or syringe-selection recommendation. Use the oral dosing device specified by your veterinarian; the tool does not round a dose up.
Can I use a kg-marked syringe or count drops?
This tool does not convert mL to product-specific kg markings or drops. Those depend on the product and dosing device. Follow the exact prescription and label instructions.
What does checking the confirmation box do?
It records your statement that the entries match your veterinarian’s written prescription. It does not authenticate the prescription or validate its safety. Editing weight, rate, concentration or label context clears that confirmation.
What should I do if overdose or adverse effects are suspected?
Contact a veterinarian promptly, provide the product, concentration, amount and timing, and check before giving any further dose. Do not use this arithmetic tool to manage toxicity.
What do the top cards and Reset do?
The cards focus the relevant form section; the country card also brings the label guidance into view. Reset returns to the clearly marked illustrative example and leaves the prescription confirmation unchecked.
