Calculation & Worked Example
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I measure lawn area?
Measure only the mowable area. For a rectangular lawn, multiply length by width in matching units. Add separate sections and subtract beds or other non-mowable areas.
What is included in a mowing rate?
The contractor sets the scope. Edging, trimming, cleanup, travel, tax and minimum charges may be included or separate. Ask before adding them again.
How does terrain affect this estimate?
The selected illustrative factor multiplies the mowing charge only. In area mode it applies to area × rate; in hourly mode it applies to hours × hourly rate. Separately entered extra labor and flat add-ons are not multiplied.
Can clippings be left on the lawn?
Purdue and UMN Extension discuss returning routine clippings to the lawn. Excessively long, diseased or chemically treated clippings may require different handling. Follow the local lawn-care guidance.
More questions
Does changing units change the total?
No. The calculator converts area and the price per selected area unit together. 1 sq ft = 0.09290304 m² and 1 acre = 4046.8564224 m².
What does hourly mowing mean?
Hourly mode replaces the area-based mowing charge with entered mowing hours × hourly rate × terrain. It does not add a second labor charge.
When should I add extra labor?
Only for work outside the quoted area mowing service. Choose Area + extra labor, then enter the additional hours and hourly rate.
Are the example prices market averages?
No. All rates and terrain multipliers are illustrative assumptions supplied for arithmetic. Replace them with a local quote.
Does currency selection convert money?
No. It changes formatting and currency labels only. Enter all prices in the selected currency; there are no exchange rates.
What if a field is blank or negative?
Active fields must contain finite non-negative values and lawn area must be positive. Enter zero for optional services. Inactive billing fields do not affect the result.
Are taxes or minimum charges included?
Not automatically. Include them in your entered rates or agreed extra charges if appropriate. This tool estimates a per-visit cost, not a binding invoice.
What do presets, Reset and Copy do?
Size presets set illustrative areas and retain your prices. Custom focuses the area input. Reset restores the original 500 m² example. Copy includes the cost breakdown and assumptions; a manual text fallback is provided if clipboard access is blocked.
